Building Antenna Systems

There is one area of radio telemetry that if ignored will weaken the link between the radio system and the very medium by which it communicates being radio waves, this is the antenna system. The most well designed radio will act poorly with a mediocre antenna system but even a mediocre radio can perform superbly when coupled to a good antenna system.

Knowing the principles of radio does help and there are many courses avalable for this (see "further Training and Technical Data"). This chapter will concentrate on assisting you with the assembly of an antenna system such tht it performs correctly thus strengthening the bond between radio and radio waves.

Areas that are covered are the installation of connectors (not your simple screw type!), the installation and orientation of Yagi antennas, and a few hints and tips on choosing an antenna.
