MEASUREMENT TECHNIQUES:
Enetics' Fixed PowerNode

Enetics' Fixed PowerNodeThere is little I can write about when it comes to this instrument, because all Enetics have done it to take their wonderful little 'lunch box' (featured here) and pop it into a nice strong surface mountable NEMA case! My apologies for the American phase colours on the unit given to me - they do now provide UK colours.

However, there is some additional hardware available on this that they have not supplied on the portable version (although, if you asked them nicely, I cannot see why they could not supply this on the portable version).

On the very left of the front panel you'll notice a set of green contacts. These are relay outputs that will trigger on any of the parameters the recorder will measure! Yip, that is any parameter. If it is measured, they can trigger an output when the value exceeds certain pre-programmed values. Nothing like warning people they are starting to exceed their harmonic allowances!

Although I am keen on the fact there is a modem in the portable unit, connecting it to a telephone line in temporary situations usually proves more problematic than what it is worth. Here, moving to GSM/GPRS proves a more viable solution. However, in the fixed version this is far more useful as telephone lines can be planned for when installing the unit.

The maximum speed of the internal modem is 2400Baud, but this in itself if not a bad thing as these are more resilient to noise on the telephone line than are higher speed modems. Enetics do recognize the fact that users may want to connect in higher speed modems and have made provision within the software and setups to allow this.

There are different versions of this recorder and the price increases with capability. However, at the keen price of this recorder I cannot understand why anyone would not want the lot!
